Pensacola Police are investigating a traffic fatality that occurred this morning.
The incident occurred around 5:55 a.m. at the intersection of South M and West Garden streets when a woman stepped into the path of an eastbound Yellow Cab. The woman, whose name is not being released until family notification, died at the scene.
Officer Tony Garza said a Yellow Cab driven by Sherri Mae Cooper, 52, of Pensacola, was eastbound on Garden Street in the inside lane. The pedestrian, who was walking in the road, stepped in front of the cab as it was passing her.
A preliminary investigation indicates the driver was not at fault. Traffic was diverted from the area for approximately three hours.
