The name of a bicyclist who died Saturday from injuries he received in a traffic crash on Friday has been released.
Frank Lewis, 70, no permanent address, was riding his bicycle on the edge of the road northbound on Ninth Avenue toward Ash Drive. A 2012 Ford Fusion driven by Kaitlynn Pemberton, 22, of Pensacola was also northbound on Ninth Avenue in the left-hand lane.
Lewis suddenly turned in front of Pemberton’s vehicle, collided with it and was thrown from the bicycle. The bike landed in a southbound lane of Ninth Avenue and was struck by a 2002 Ford Explorer driven by William Deakle, 26, of Pensacola, said Officer Richard Ghigliotty.
Lewis was wearing dark clothing and was not wearing a helmet. He was taken to a local hospital where he died just before 4 a.m. Saturday, said Officer Jason Browning.
